Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG)

During ESG surgery, a small camera-equipped tube (endoscope) is inserted orally through the natural pathway of the throat to the esophagus and into the stomach, avoiding external incisions. ESG is less invasive than LSG, offers faster recovery times and is typically reversible. ESG reduces stomach size by approximately 70% to support weight loss by reducing food intake, reducing the amount of food needed to fill the stomach and slowing stomach emptying.

Where does my surgery take place?

Your surgery will take place in a professional outpatient surgical center in Mississauga just under 15 minutes from Toronto Pearson Airport. You can expect support from a team of skilled professionals who come to each patient with decades of skill, experience, and expertise.

What’s the timeline like for surgeries?

Your surgical experience from assessment to surgery will typically take less than 30 days. The pre-assessment will involve blood work, surgical consultation, as well as a teaching preparation so you know exactly what to expect at every step.

What is the cost of surgery?

Typically average out of hospital laparoscopic sleeve surgery costs $25,000-35,000 CAD in Canada. Endoscopic sleeve surgery performed in expert centers in the US costs an average of 17,500-25,000 CAD.

How will I know if surgery is right for me?

Our team of expert providers will guide each patient to the procedure that matches their wishes and desired outcomes. Am I the right weight to get this surgery?

Typical ideal weight is reported in BMI. The ideal BMIs for both procedures are between 30-40. If you are under BMI 30 please contact us to see what options you have. If you are over a BMI of 40 prior to surgery we recommend a trial of medically managed weight loss. This will be arranged through our clinic.

What is recovery like for these procedures?

Both procedures have expected same day discharges (<24 hrs). We have systems in place to take care of anyone who falls outside of this range.

What will be covered by my insurance?

How long will my results last?

Results will vary according to procedure type as well as diet and lifestyle following procedures. As with any weight loss procedure, some weight regain can be expected after 3-4 years and beyond. We can offer more information in your initial consultation. We’re pleased to offer long-term clinic followup options that can reduce the chances of this occurring and maintaining weight loss, so you can enjoy your results fully.
